چکیده

The role of Nigella Sativa (NS) was investigated in the prevention of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced liver fibrosis. Twenty seven adult wistar-albino rats were allocated into three groups (control, CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity and hepatotoxicity and NS-treated) and after the treatment, rats were sacrified, blood samples were collected for determination of plasma aminotransferases, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity. Mean plasma AST, ALT and MDA levels were found to be significantly higher in CCl4 induced hepatotoxic rats group than in the control group (p<0.05). Mean erythrocyte GSH-Px and SOD levels were found to be significantly lower in CCl4 induced group compared with the control group and levels of these parameters were found significantly increases after NS treatment. NS may be used in CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in rats to prevent lipid peroxidation, increase anti-oxidant defence system activity and also prevent liver damage.

Protection by Nigella sativa against carbon tetrachloride-induced downregulation of hepatic cytochrome P450 isozymes in rats.

Nigella sativa (family Ranunculaceae) is an annual plant that has been traditionally used on the Indian subcontinent and in Middle Eastern countries. In this study, we investigated the effect of N. sativa oil on the drug-metabolizing cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes and whether it has a protective effect against the acute hepatotoxicity of CCl4. Intraperitoneal injection of rats with CCl4 drastica...

The hepatoprotective activity of olive oil and Nigella sativa oil against CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity in male rats

BACKGROUND Liver disease is the major cause of serious health problem leading to morbidity and mortality worldwide and the problem has increased in search for hepatotherapeutic agents from plants. The present study was designed to compare the probable hepatoprotective activity of olive oil and N. sativa oil on CCl4 induced liver damage in male rats. METHODS Forty males of a new model of albin...

Antioxidant and Hepatoprotective Effects of Thymoquinone against Carbon Tetra- Chloride-induced Hepatotoxicity in Isolated Rat Hepatocytes

Herbs are known to play a vital role in the management of various liver diseases. Thymoquinone (TQ) is the bioactive constituent of Nigella sativa seed. The present work was planned to evaluate the potential hepatoprotective effects of TQ against the cytotoxic effects and the oxidative stress induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in isolated primary rat hepatocytes. Cytotoxicity was determined...

Therapeutic efficacy of Nigella sativa Linn. seed extract against CCl4 induced hepatic injury in Wistar rats.

Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) intake damages liver. We evaluated therapeutic potential of aqueous extract of Nigella sativa seeds against CCl4 induced liver damage in rats. The hepatic damage induced by CCl4 @ 1.5 mL/kg, ip was evidenced by a significant increase in the serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), albumin, protein and urea lipid peroxidation (LPO) as we...
